The Thinker Personality Type - How to influence buying behavior

The Thinker likes facts, details, proven examples and is highly organized. Their approach to business is thoughtful, logical and analytical.

Buyer Rank: Of the four personality types, the Thinker ranks last to buy. This is the classic fence-sitter personality type who gets “analysis paralysis” because it's natural for them to ask for more. No detail is too small.

So be patient. Once this type decides to buy, they are “in” and will snap up expensive back-end offers, too.

Marketing Strategies: The Thinker personality is careful and conservative. They are unlikely to make snap decisions and will need to be fully convinced of your credibility and competence before she will buy. They are the exact opposite of the free-spirited Olympian.

Thinkers like to be complimented on their brain power. Ask them to post their comments and advice on your blog.

Marketing Strategies to Avoid:

  • Avoid a high-energy, "pushy" approach. Thinkers are methodical. They prefer to take their time to reach a decision. A "hard sell" approach is likely to irritate them or make them uncomfortable with you.
  • Do not gloss over any aspect of your service. Of all the personality types, the Thinker is  genuinely the most interested in a high level of detail.

An Important Note on Personality Types

Prospects and customers are different than you and different than each other. And they are always seeking people like themselves.

However, you can succeed once you recognize their differences and realize that you must approach them the way they want to be approached, not necessarily the way you would want to be approached.

Take our 2-minute Personality Test to discover your type and learn about creating a personality test especially for your prospects and customers. People buy people before they buy products or services.

And each month we'll send you “TQM Influence,” which focuses on the psychology of buying. It never takes more than 60 seconds to read.
